What Watch Together Does

Plex Watch Together lets multiple Plex users watch the same content simultaneously with synced playback. When one person pauses, it pauses for everyone. It works across different devices and locations — you don't need to be on the same network.

How to Start a Session

Start playing something on your device. Click the user icon (or the '...' menu depending on your client). Select 'Watch Together' and invite friends from your Plex friends list. They'll get a notification and can join with one tap. The host controls playback.

Requirements

• All participants need Plex accounts (free accounts work)
• The server owner must share the library with all participants
• Plex Pass is required for the HOST only
• Stable internet for all participants — buffering on one device pauses everyone

Supported Clients

Watch Together works on most Plex clients: web, iOS, Android, Apple TV, Roku, Fire TV, Android TV, and smart TVs. It does NOT work on the PlayStation or Xbox apps as of 2026. The web client is the most reliable option if you're having issues on other platforms.

Troubleshooting Sync Issues

• Constant buffering: The slowest participant's connection limits everyone. Check if transcoding is happening — direct play on all clients gives the smoothest experience
• Audio/video out of sync: All participants should close and reopen Plex, then rejoin the session
• Can't find friends: Both users must have accepted the Plex friend request. Check Settings → Users & Sharing → Friends
